About Me
I have no clue how to talk about myself like this without sounding pretentious, so I’ll just give it my best shot.
I’m Kyle. I was born in ’95, and grew up in the south of the US doing a lot of the things you’d expect a lot of people from the south to do: four-wheeling, playing sports, going to church, and a god awful amount of yard work. I don’t want to sit here and pretend I was a real redneck like many of people I grew up around, though; I was always a bit of a nerd and was infinitely curious and open-minded. I loved playing with the science kits you could get at the book fairs, I played a lot of Pokemon on my Gameboy, I was in a robotics club in high school, and I’ve been tinkering with computers and electronics for as long as I can remember. Making friends has always been very easy for me, because I’ve always just been a very social person.
Eventually I moved away to the Bay area in California, though. That process was a huge change and one that fundamentally altered my worldview. Prior to the move, my existence consisted of jobs that were very physically demanding, conservative and religious environments, and small towns with deep ties to their communities. On the surface, San Jose was the complete opposite of that, and so I came down to pursue my dreams of going to college to become a video game developer. In a lot of ways, the Bay area changed me: I shed a lot of the prior beliefs I had, I fell out of my religion, and I had a better understanding of how the world works and peoples’ place within it. I am such a drastically different person than I was when I moved out here that, if you had told me when I was 20 of the type of person I’d become when I was 30, I might have never come out here in the first place. But, I’m glad I did.
I, like many in this area, work in the technology industry. I’ve been in the Bay long enough that I have completely assimilated into its culture, but I’ve never really forgotten who I was. I think it’s incredibly important that I keep expanding my horizon and taking advantage of all the blessings that I’m offered in life. But I also think it’s incredibly important to never lose touch with the average person, nor should I forget where I was before I got to where I am. I am constantly learning something new, pushing myself to get better at something, or gathering new experiences; I’m always in a state of growth and evolution as a person.
This blog is one of my many fun little projects. I have a lot of thoughts that I’d like to get out there, and I hope to have some awesome discussions with more people. Thanks for stopping by!
